We have to agree that it’s no Bold 9700 and no Motorola Droid, but Verizon’s new BlackBerry Storm2 certainly has what it takes to get our attention. Speaking of which, we just got our hands on some leaked documents where the Storm2 is being expected to release on Big Red starting October 28 for a price that will go just shy of $180.

Not that we’re not happy to know the release is just around the corner, but there are things we can’t understand. There’s the Bold 2 in queue and it’s a pretty darn interesting smartphone to do with, there’s also one of the most craved for mobile of the year, the Droid, and Verizon does what? Announce the new BB Storm 2 for the end of October? Doesn’t it sound like they’re trying to “actually” bury it.

Those who can’t remember, BlackBerry Storm 2 packs a 3.2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, the BlackBerry OS 5.0, threaded texting, an enhanced SurePress typing system that would employ Piezo technology, more durable rubber keys and a highly responsive screen and capabilities to display orientation in no time.

BlackBerry Storm2 :

bBlackBerry Storm2 will be officially listed in the U.S. on September 29, and it will be customized by Verizon. The new version of the Storm has a more user-friendly screen technology called SurePress that uses piezo-electric displays that can detect different amounts of pressure pushing down on the screen rather than if there is a touch or not like traditional touchscreen phones. As the Storm 2’s screen provides feedback with touch being measured it should allow for easier usage of an on-screen keyboard.

b2Features:

BlackBerry Storm2 (9550) support for CDMA 1xRTT/EVDO Rev.A wireless network and quad-band GSM / EDGE network, which is equipped with a resolution of 360 × 480 touch screen, built-in 3.2 megapixels camera, OS 5.0 and WiFi.The latest BlackBerry OS 5.0 should also be preloaded onto the device.

The 360 x 480 touch display offers a comprehensive view and very responsive screen, which is infinitely better than its predecessor. BlackBerry has scrapped the rather unimpressive ‘SurePress’ technology and has opted to incorporate ‘Piezo’ software, offering screen sensitivity rivalling the iPhone’s.
