Ovi by Nokia is the brand for Nokia's Internet services. The Ovi services can be used from a mobile device, computer (through Nokia Ovi Suite) or via the web (Ovi.com). Nokia focuses on five key services areas: Games, Maps, Media, Messaging and Music. Nokia's aim with Ovi is to include 3rd parties, such as operators and third-party services like Yahoo's Flickr photo site.
Six months after its launch, Nokia's Ovi Mail has seen the adoption of the service increase and the numbers of accounts jump from zero to 1 million.
Ovi Mail claims to bring e-mail access to even those who do not have access to a PC. The program is designed to be set up right on the phone and even low end Nokia devices come loaded with the basic Ovi mail client from where users can register and sign up for the service. Post that, users can use it like any other e-mail account and access emails right on their phones.
"More than just reaching a company milestone, this proves to us that there is a real appetite in the developing world for these types of tailored services," said Tom Furlong, head of Consumer Messaging at Nokia. "For first-time email users, Ovi Mail provides a digital identity and we are thrilled by its rapidly rising adoption rate," he added.
Ovi mail is designed for the developing markets where a growing number of people are still without access to a . Nokia is concentrating on the top five countries for Ovi Mail subscribers that include India, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia and South Africa. Since its inception in December 2008, Ovi Mail is available in more than 180 countries and supports 20 languages. As for the "features" for Ovi Mail, it is a plain, basic e-mail utility with a spam filter and other "normal" features. It is supported by a host of devices across a broad price spectrum, ranging from the basic 2330 Classic to the 5310 XpressMusic.
To access Ovi Mail, simply go to the email setup wizard on your Nokia Series 40 device or Nokia S60 device such as the Nokia N97. Ovi Mail is also available on the web at
