For a few, the term Google Phone 2.0 is absolutely alien so they need to be told that it is just another name for the second version of the Google mobile OS, Android. The much anticipated Motorola Droid is the one that is powered by this OS, just to make things a little more explicable. Also, another clarification needed before we tell you more about Android 2.0 is that Google is not at all readying its own handset and therefore Google 2.0 is not a name of any handset coming in the future.

As far as the Android 2.0 OS is concerned, the droid users will discover that they can run the applications quicker than usual times and even while multi-tasking, the features are more readily accessible.Unlike the normal handsets, the Android 2.0 powered devices will have a contact list that includes contacts from Facebook as well. The Zooming function also gets a boost with this OS and the users also get to use the latest and updated Google Maps.

Another marked change is the improvement in support for Microsoft Exchange. Google 2.0 users can integrate their mails from various accounts into one common place.

There are features that make the phone usage easier while driving and even video uploading will be less cumbersome a task. Just to remind you again, Google 2.0 is not a handset!

Motorola is eager to know the future of its Android devices (seeking revival) and therefore it is manufacturing devices with the Google OS one after the other. The Motorola CLIQ will be available for pre-order from October 19 and will hit the shelves November 2nd.

CLIQ comes with a 3.1-inch (480×360) touchscreen display and a QWERTY keypad which implies that it is primarily a texting device. Even T-Mobile is releasing the phone for the messaging and social networking purpose as a huge amount of subscribers use these services through such phones.

The phone is 3G and WiFi enabled but even then the pricing of $199 on a two-year contract is somewhat unjust. Without the contract the phone will cost $449 but the buyer has to subscribe for a data plan.

Other than T-Mobile, Orange UK will release it as the DEXT with pre-orders for the phone beginning on October 22nd. This Motorola handset will also conquer the European and South American markets sometime in the future.

The CLIQ is a tad expensive but those wanting to enjoy the MOTOBLUR feature will not bother about the pricing part, after all, the MOTOBLUR feature is exclusive to this phone.

T-Mobile Pulse:

T-Mobile and Huawei's first Android phone:

The latest Android device to be announced as a T-Mobile exclusive, the Pulse is set to be the most affordable mobile sporting the open source software yet.

Mobile phone carrier T-Mobile has made a little telecommunications history today after confirming the launch of its Pulse handset, the world’s very first pay-as-you-go (PAYG) smartphone powered by the Google-backed Android operating system.

Expected to hit European retail outlets this coming October, T-Mobile has said the new PAYG Android phone will carry a purchase cost of just 180 GBP, which may well attract smartphone consumers in their droves given that Apple’s PAYG iPhone currently sells for around 540 GBP.

“We introduced the first Android handset, the T-Mobile G1 to the UK back in October 2008, launch our second handset, the G2 Touch, earlier this year and now we’re opening up Android-based smartphones to a whole new type of mobile user with the first handset on pay-as-you-go,” trumpeted Nicola Shenton, head of T-Mobile UK’s handset division.

Those prospective buyers with their ears suitably pricked by the prospect of a much more recession friendly pay-as-you-go smartphone can look forward to a Huawei-made device that comes equipped with a generous features.

T-Mobile has extended its Android offering with the launch of its first non-HTC Android phone - the T-Mobile Pulse.

The new phone is the first in the world to be offered on Pay As You Go, and comes in at a sprightly £180.

Features:

3.5 inch touchscreen

320 x 480 pixels resolution

HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA 5.76 Mbps

Wi-Fi

GPS

Bluetooth 2.0

3.2MP camera

2GB of internal memory

However, users will have to pay a fair whack to use the internet on this device, which some might be upset about given Android is fairly data-centric, at £5 per month or £1 per day.

T-Mobile will also be offering the Pulse on pay monthly contracts in due course.

The new phone has been given an October UK release date, so not long to wait if you're after Android on a budget.

Spotted on T-Mobile's leaked Android roadmap, the Motorola Morrison will be a full QWERTY smartphone with touchscreen. This will be the third Android phone for Moto after the Calgary and the Ironman, and the fifth for T-Mobile including the already available G1 and the forthcoming G1 v2 Bigfoot, the G2 / Magic / MyTouch 3G (dear phone manufacturers, can y'all pick a name and stick with it?) and the Samsung Houdini.

T-Mobile G2 Touch:

Physical Aspects:

The HTC Hero is a rather striking handset, currently available in either white or graphite color schemes in the UK, with a characteristic 'kink' in its body, giving it a distinctive chin at the bottom. In the UK, the color you get depends on the network you choose. Orange UK are exclusively offering the graphite version, whereas T-Mobile UK are offering the white/silver version that we have, but are calling it the 'G2 Touch'.

Being the white version, our handset has the matte white finish that is coated with Teflon to help keep it clean. However, ours had pink marks on it straight out of the box, and ones at the HTC release event were tarnished as well, so it clearly doesn't make the phone dirt-proof, just dirt resistant. The graphite version doesn't have this coating, but due to the back and bottom area being black, it doesn't actually need it. One curious side-effect of the finish on our white device is that the phone feels as if it's made of a ceramic material.

The Hero is, by today's touchscreen handset standards, a pretty average-sized phone, and measures in at 112mm x 56.2mm x 14.35mm (4.41in x 2.21in x 0.57in). It appears slimmer than it actually is, due to heavily sloped edges that also make it feel nicer in the hand. It's not exactly a lightweight, at 135g (4.76oz), but it feels quite robust. The first thing you'll notice about the HTC Hero, aside from the chin, is its 3.2" capacitive touchscreen display that has a HVGA resolution (320 x 480 pixels). Bright sunlight legibility is pretty average with this display. Above the display is the earpiece grille, which has an ambient light sensor on one side and a notification LED on the other.

The are only six hardware buttons on the device, not including the clickable trackball or the volume rocker. The call send, home, menu, and call end buttons are all lined-up below the display on the silver fascia of the phone. The search key and back key are both contained within one larger button that resides on the chin of the phone, next to the trackball. The trackball itself is located dead centre in the chin and has the ability to illuminate for notifications, usually unleashing a barrage of flashes for a new message or incoming call.

The rear of the Hero features the lens for the device's 5 megapixel autofocus camera, although it's still missing any sort of flash, which is a shame. The rear is otherwise pretty spartan, with only a couple of holes for the loudspeaker and the lanyard fixing. At the bottom of the handset is HTC's ExtUSB/mini-USB port for charging and data, plus a microphone pinhole. Atop the device is just the 3.5mm headphone port and a small slit for removing the rear cover with a fingernail. The rear cover will need to be removed for access to the microSDHC slot that is hidden beneath. The left side of the phone features a large volume rocker that is pretty much flush with the side of the phone, and the right side is completely bare.

HTC's latest Android handset, the Hero, features a newly tweaked interface that is part of HTC's 'Sense' initiative. The new interface allows a user's information to be brought directly to their fingertips, much like HTC's TouchFlo 3D does for the Windows Mobile platform. Upping the ante, HTC have also included a 5 megapixel camera and 3.5mm headphone port on the Hero, allowing it to rescue us from boredom, as well. Read on to find out whether HTC's latest handset really is a hero, or if it's a zero.

T-Mobile - Android phone:

T-Mobile has decided to update their data plans for Android phones. Gone is the $24.99 plan that included unlimited data and 400 text messages. It has been replaced with a newer plan that is the same price, but does not include any text messages bundled in. The $34.99 plan remains unchanged and still includes unlimited data and unlimited text.

The following is the latest pricing from T-Mobile:

Data Plans

Unlimited Web: $24.99

Unlimited Web + Unlimited Messages: $34.99

Text Messaging Plans

300 Domestic Messages: $4.99

1000 Domestic Messages: $9.99

Unlimited Domestic Messages: $14.99

Unlimited Domestic Messages for Families: $24.95

It appears the changes are only taking place for new T-Mobile customers. Existing customers will be allowed to keep their $24.99 plan with 400 text messages. There is no official word if the older plans with 400 messages will eventually be phased out. We are waiting to hear from T-Mobile and will updated you if we get a response.

With the new plans in place, customers who choose the lower $24.99 plan and want basic texting can add on the 300 messages for $4.99. This brings their monthly total to $30. I’m sure T-Mobile will just use this as an opportunity to upgrade you to the $34.99 plan to get unlimited texting. Overages for text messages are still running at $0.20 per message.
