Customers looking to buy the new Motorola Droid X on Verizon should also know that a $29.99 data plan is required, and for those of you who’d like a mobile hotspot plan, that’s $20 more for 2GB of data. Another interesting thing is that anyone (not just those who already own a Droid, like Apple did with their new iPhone 4) with a contract ending sometime in 2010, will be eligible for a special upgrade discount to get the X.

Regarding specs and features, the new Motorola Droid X for Verizon comes with a lovely 4.3-inch 854×480 touchscreen display, runs Android 2.1with an all-new UI, and packs a 1GHz TI OMAP3640 processor under the hood. Adding to the goodies list is an 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash capable of 720p HD video recording, HDMI out, 8 GB of built-in storage (expandable up to 32GB) and the fact that Android 2.2 Froyo with Adobe Flash 10.1 support will be coming later this summer as an upgrade.

So how `bout it folks, are you going to forget about the new iPhone 4 or the HTC EVO 4G and buy Verizon’s new Motorola Droid X?

Rating: +4 (from 4 votes)

Motorola MILESTONE features:

* World’s thinnest QWERTY slider at just 13.7mm
* 3.7” widescreen display with 854 pixel width and more than 400,000 total pixels (more than twice the leading competitor)

Motorola MILESTONE review: Hello Droid

VN:F [1.9.13_1145]
Rating: +3 (from 3 votes)

Android devices come from all walks of life but rarely do they carry as much baggage as the MILESTONE. Motorola seem to be betting the farm with the MILESTONE and the warm reception it’s getting must leave them breathing a sigh of relief. Catching the Android wave may’ve seemed like the last available move but a device like the MILESTONE makes turning the tide much more likely.

photos-droid-by-motorola-hands-on-14

So, Motorola are back with a bang and the MILESTONE is one of the best spec’d phone to ever run Android. The Google Nexus One is supposed to instill fear in nearly every touchscreen device out there but the Moto Droid must be positioned well enough by now to withstand the attack.

Key features

  • Quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G support
  • 10.2 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA support
  • 3.7" 16M-color capacitive touchscreen of WVGA (480x 854 pixel) resolution
  • Android OS v2.0 with kinetic scrolling and pinch zooming
  • Slimmest side slider with full QWERTY Keyboard

    yet

  • Great build quality
  • ARM Cortex A8 600MHz CPU, PowerVR SGX graphics accelerator; 256 MB of RAM
  • 5 MP autofocus camera with dual-LED Flash and geo-tagging
  • D1 (720 x 480 pixels) video recording @ 24fps
  • Wi-Fi and GPS with A-GPS
  • 133MB storage, microSD slot, bundled 8GB card
  • Accelerometer and proximity sensor
  • Standard 3.5 mm audio jack
  • microUSB port (charging) and stereo Bluetooth v2.1

Main disadvantages

  • No DivX and XviD video playback
  • No smart and voice dialing
  • Somewhat clumsy camera interface and limited camera features
  • No free GPS navigation solution
  • No Flash support for the web browser
  • No FM radio

There’s hardly anything missing on the Motorola MILESTONE spec sheet so we should be ready for an exciting ride. The test-drive got us impressed: at the end of our preview we felt positive about the MILESTONE prospects. So now, the Moto DROID has a full review ahead to build on that good impression.

Considering the rate of its sales, the handset is doing well from a user point of view too. Yet, a short-lived success is just not good enough for Motorola: the company doesn’t have the resources to come up with an equally talented successor as quick as some of the competitors. So, the MILESTONE needs to stick around the top of the sales charts for at least a few months to give Motorola some breathing space.

Motorola Droid 2.0 Leaked

VN:F [1.9.13_1145]
Rating: +2 (from 2 votes)

A Chinese site by the name of Mobile Android seems to have found first pictures and specs sheet of the upcoming sequel to the popular Droid phone, dubbed as Motorola Sholes Tablet. The leaked specs sheet looks impressive with 3.7’’ 840×485 WVGA capacitive multi-touch screen, 8 megapixel camera and HDMI output like the one in Zune HD. This combination of HDMI port + 8 megapixel camera will enable Sholes (Droid 2.0) to record high definition video, and then output it in HD 720p resolution.
Motorola-Droid-2.0-Leaked-Details
Sholes Tablet will be powered by Android 2.0 and will not include physical keyboard like its predecessor Motorola Droid on Verizon. We can expect official word on Sholes Tablet from Motorola soon.

Sholes Tablet will probably go on sale in second half of 2010. With Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X10 also set to release in the same year as Sholes Tablet and with 8 megapixels camera, things are surely looking good for theAndroid camp. [via BGR]
